Facebook Advertising for a New Website

,

My website is nearly two weeks and I have learnt so much about the concept of online marketing, especially Facebook advertising for a new website. I started this personal project as something to past the time and build on, with no intention of making it a ‘business’. However the response from the last week has been highly motivating to further myself. I will tell you my journey so far.

WordPress

I was familiar with WordPress as I used it in university for one of my projects. It is a relatively easy way to build your website but you do need to put some time and effort to find out how to work things. The first couple of days of my website involved myself playing around with plugins and trying to find a suitable theme that is not only user friendly but workable.

How did I learn WordPress? Trial and error. I went through all the functions to see what they did and used Youtube for guides. I suggest not making your website live until you have a fully functional website and some content ready to be uploaded.

Content

This is highly important before the launch of your website. I planned out what I was going to upload way before I started my website. Consistency is key. Keep your website up to date. Having a wide range of content on your site not only draws more traffic, it also gives them a reason to stay and explore. That is the trouble I still face today.

Facebook Advertising

This is my page views per month. As you can see, it had a sudden growth on the 12th of March. What happened on that day was I released content that was accessible and in demand. I advertised my content on targeted groups on Facebook and the traction was insane. My page viewings went up considerably, almost ten times! That is 1000% increase, which still blows my mind. Might I add, I have spent nothing for this. All this has cost me $0.

Why was it successful? All my advertisements through Facebook were helpful to the community. I was sharing my resources, and providing an easy guideline to how to access my product. The post was informative and it contained pictures to give them a visual guideline of what to expect. I am no marketer, but a consumer must get a feel for the product before purchasing. All my resources are free, so more incentive for them to try it out!

My website’s growth has been consistent throughout the week, averaging nearly 1000 page views everyday. Hopefully the trend continues, as the real challenge is next. Trying to retain my audience. Content has a lifespan, as you can see with my 13th of March viewings. I got nearly 1700 page views as my most popular post was at it’s peak. It went down considerably as my posts on Facebook were going down the pecking order while the content was not fresh.

Future Plans

This an exciting time for myself. Facebook advertising for my new website has done wonders for it. My website continues to grow and the feedback I have gotten has been amazing (thanks Mum!). I do plan to continue populating my website with more content for all to use, though the future I do plan to do the following;

  • Shopping features. So you can buy books to support my website!
  • Possibly video features. I may dive into creating content through the use of videos but this is dependent on my time. Making quality video content is not as easy as it sounds.
  • Live support features. I want to incorporate this so anyone visiting my site has a chance to message me. This is an idea for now and need to research this topic more.
