Importance of Sentence Building
It is important for children to gain the ability to construct sentences after learning how to chain together single words. They develop both their vocabulary and their writing skills at the same time. You should expect your child to know around 50 words before they begin building sentences. Here are some suggestions for vocabulary pages.
Often, once children begin to link two or three words together, they are able to develop this skill rapidly. It is natural for them to make mistakes along the way, and adults should provide them with models of correct sentences, as well as take time to correct the errors in a supportive manner appropriate for their age and stage of development.
Language development continues as your child builds sentences. As soon as your child is able to speak in sentences, they can ask and answer questions, make requests, and more. As children experience more complex language, their sentences become more complex and detailed.
