Managing a Pre-Primary Class

,

Managing a Pre-Primary class can be no easy feat. A class of learners aged between 4 to 5 years old is at pre-primary level. The development of their speech, motor, vision and hearing must be considered when it comes to management. Children at the specified age have more control over their actions, are more dependent and have considerable communication skills.

The classroom must be maintained in order for the children to learn how to enjoy their experience at school. The children still need guidance despite their development as they still need their teacher to work with them individually. The classroom should be arranged to support the safety of the children. Ideally a classroom should be divided between a recreation and work area with a U/V shaped seating arrangement to maximize the concentration of the students.

The teachers’ task is to motivate the curiosity and love that children have for knowledge; however, they must direct them in order to gain stability in the classroom. Children at the ages of 4 and 5 are questioning their environment more and their personalities start to flourish as they learn more about their emotions. The teacher must control the class by their presence and personality that is able to hold the attention of the class. A structured class with the right level of rules and reward can prevent future problems, so the teacher must consider themselves when it comes to the management of the class.

Managing a Pre-Primary class with effective management increases the chances of the children following the lesson more efficiently as it will establish healthy communication practice. With praise and encouragement, children will be more motivated to learn. Managing their relationships and environments will develop their social and emotional skills.
