What Lies Ahead 2020

2020 has been a roller coaster of a ride, and is only a quarter of the way through!

After returning to Hong Kong after my Christmas holidays, there were a lot of uncertainty regarding the development of the coronavirus. The first half of the academic year took a major hit with the protests and now it faces the challenges of the virus. I can go into great detail about the virus, however I like to distance myself from the discussions regarding it. Everyone stay safe and make sure that your hygiene levels are on point.

After Chinese New Year I started a new teaching job at a school with an international curriculum researched from the US. I am looking forward to the new challenge and have been working with them for the last month. Interesting enough, their curriculum is based on the Johns Hopkins University Kindergarten Program Success for All, otherwise known as S.F.A, and Eye Level Math that was developed at the State University of New York. This is my first time experiencing S.F.A, and I must say it is impressive. The learning approach, consistency and detail is exceptional.

The school I am with now has placed me in Kindergarten 3 (K3), which is the final year before Primary School. Before, I was teaching Nursery and Kindergarten 1 (K1) with the students being aged between 2-3. K3 is a challenge that I cannot wait to tackle, as there will be more substance to the lessons and they will be more independent in their own needs. Nursery and K1 are classes that I enjoy, but it can be physically and mentally draining at times. Currently, I am teaching online to my new classes using ZOOM which is new, but I hope to see them in the classroom very soon.

Finally, I decided to make this website! I came up with the idea when I was looking online for tutoring gigs. With the virus, there are a lot of teachers out there looking for work, so supply is high. From what I have seen, demand is low as parents are still very cautious of the virus. They probably don’t want an outsider to come inside their home! With the free time I have had, I decided to execute the ideas that kept popping into my head and here it is, my own website. I plan to upload my thoughts and resources for all to share and view freely.

2020 so far has been interesting. New job, new curriculum and a new side project. Hopefully this year will be a blessing.
